Most of us have always wanted to be twins. From babies to now going to college together, meet Taylor and Ella Roumy: Sophomore soccer players committed to the University of Richmond. Fortunately for them they get to skip the dreaded sibling goodbye for college, because they are going together! They work hard on and off the field to become successful student athletes. Many athletes know about the struggle, but together they thrive in every aspect of their life. Let’s take a look into their lives to see how they handle all of the pressure.
What made you guys want to go to college together?
“Being twins has shaped nearly every part of our lives, so the idea of going to college separately felt almost unimaginable. After living our whole lives together, sharing experiences, supporting each other through challenges, and celebrating accomplishments side by side. It would be incredibly difficult to adjust to a life apart.” – Taylor
“We’ve always done everything side by side, from school to soccer, so I think it just felt natural to take that next step together”- Ella
What was your favorite soccer memory together?
“My favorite soccer memory with my twin is the day we both committed. It was such an important moment, not only because we achieved something we had worked so hard for, but also because we were able to share that milestone together. What made it unforgettable was seeing the pure joy and pride on our dad’s face. It was a moment that brought together our hard work, our bond as twins, and the love and support of our family.” – Taylor
What do your after-school days look like when you have games?
“They’re usually busy. We come home from school, grab a quick snack or eat an early dinner, do some homework, and then head out together.” – Ella
“My schedule becomes very focused. I usually try to complete as much homework as possible beforehand so I don’t have distractions later.” – Taylor
Do you ever wish you weren’t a twin?
“There are times when I’ve wondered what life would be like if I weren’t a twin. However, whenever I think more deeply about it, I realize how fortunate I am. Having a twin means I always have someone beside me, through every challenge, every achievement, and every ordinary day.” – Taylor
“Not really. Sometimes people compare us, which can be tough. But overall, being a twin is something I think I wouldn’t trade. As a twin you have a built-in best friend that you’ve grown up with, and watching each other succeed either in our own ways or together is a feeling that I wouldn’t exchange for anything.” – Ella
Has playing the same sport ever affected your “twin relationship”?
“Yes, in both good and challenging ways. On one hand, it’s made us super close because we share the same goals and experiences. On the other hand, there are moments of competition and frustration, but even those push us to get better. At the end of the day, it’s only made us stronger as sisters and as teammates.” – Ella
“Playing the same sport has certainly impacted our relationship. At times, our competitiveness has led to tension because we both want to succeed and push ourselves to be the best. Yet, that same competitiveness has also strengthened our bond. It has taught us to rely on each other, to trust one another on and off the field, and to balance our drive with encouragement.” – Taylor
These two are amazing people on and off the field. They work hard and focus on accomplishing their goals together. It is admirable how they work together, and you can even see they have some similar responses. Using the same kind of words and phrases they overall believe in the same things: “In the end, sharing the same sport has made our twin relationship even stronger by blending rivalry with support in a way that only we can truly understand.”
