With the fall and winter weather on the rise, so are new trends and fun new clothing. Summer ends with a chill, carrying us into fall. We put our cute baby doll tops, tank tops, shorts, and skirts aside to make space for our warm clothing.
Looking around the school halls, girls have switched their baby doll tops for sweaters, shorts for jeans, and t-shirts for comfy sweatshirts. Brands like Hollister, Garage, Arie, and Abercrombie have switched their summer clothing to their fun festive fall pieces. Browns and muted beiges have started to make their way into stores, becoming prominent colors for the new fall season. Even now as we start to come into winter, blues and whites have also taken stage.
When shopping for new pieces, to switch up their outfits from last year, girls look to their favorite influencers to let them know what trends we’re following this chilly season. Expect to see lots of stripes, polka dots, and cheetah print.
We gain so much inspiration from social media and influencers like Alex Earle, Emma Chamberlain, Demetra, the Kalogeras sisters, and model Bella Hadid. At some point, one of their TikTok’s have popped up on your For You page; without noticing or trying, we make a mental note of the outfit they’re wearing and how they styled it.
TikTok has also helped in expanding our wardrobes with the TikTok Shop: an in-app purchasing that sends products straight to your door. It’s made shopping so much easier, allowing you to click on outfits and clothing items worn by your favorite creators straight on the same video. Something that you’ll notice when you shop around on it is that it’s filled with the best dupes. They have dupes of all your favorite brands like Garage, Free People, American Eagle— almost every brand you can think of!
I went around East and asked some girls what their favorite trending clothing piece is right now.
Lizzie Steitz said, “Polka dots and the color brown.”
Allie Min commented, “Knee high black boots.”
Jaime Poon mentioned, “stacked jewelry.”
In addition to individual pieces, clothing aesthetics have blown up as well, with certain vibes curated through popular styles. One prominent style recently is the “clean girl.” This is characterized by elements like Lululemon half-zips and pastel colors. It reflects minimalistic, effortless lifestyle. Another popular style blowing up is streetwear. Baggy clothing from brands like Stussy, flat-brim caps, and vintage jerseys are in. Contrasting the simplistic elements of the “clean girl” style, streetwear follows a more maximalist theme with outfits dogpiled in accessories. Chunky rings, gold bracelets, and carabiners with keychains all add to the flashy yet put togetherness that encapsulates all that streetwear represents.
When we look at the current clothing trends of our time, it’s important to always look at past and incoming trends. Maybe the skinny jeans in your mom’s closet may make a comeback in popularity. Or maybe the flashy colors of the past will outshine the muted, pastel colors that decorate our clothes today. Fashion is timeless, so make sure to dress to express!
