Books 4 the Children is a new club here at CB East committed to gathering books and funds to establish a new mini library in Botswana, Africa. The club is backed in part by the African Library Project [ALP], a non-profit organization established in 2005 by philanthropist Chris Bradshaw. Its mission statement is “to change lives, book by book” throughout communities in sub-Saharan Africa.
The club, founded by sophomores Arielle Kulish [president] and Amanda Sottos [vice president], intends to follow suit. “I believe every child deserves access to education and books are fundamental to that,” Kulish claims in regard to why she came up with the club in the first place. She later adds that “by starting a library In Botswana, we can provide resources for learning and help improve opportunities for children in need.”
With club meetings taking place each Wednesday in Mrs. Koch’s room [D125], the club hopes to collect a total of 500 books and $650 dollars by September 1, 2024. They plan to achieve this through partnerships with local libraries and businesses for support and events within the Central Bucks community in the hopes of raising awareness about literacy and education in Botswana.
