Piloted at Central Bucks South last year, the Principles of Teaching program is now being expanded to CB East and West. This program is for students who know that they want to or are considering having a career in education. This is a class that will have 1 credit as a graded elective. To take this class, visit Ms. Conn in A203 for more information on how to apply.
CB East wants this program to empower the next generation of students and let tomorrow’s educators grow with our teaching community. Students will spend 2-3 days a week with their instructor at East to explore a variety of topics such as lesson planning, classroom management, and how to help students learn. The other 2-3 days each student participating will be placed in a CBSD class in one of our select elementary or middle schools. During the students’ time in the classroom, they will be observing the teacher and their methods, while also getting the chance to lead the class alongside the teacher to get the real feel for teaching. We interviewed senior Ashley Cohan, asking for her thoughts on the new program.
What are you hoping to take away from this experience?
Ashley Cohan: “I’m hoping to learn what it takes to be a teacher before I choose it as my career.”
What made you want to join and how’d you find this program?
AC: “Ms. Conn pulled me aside to tell me about the program after we did a project, and she said she got the idea that I wanted to be a teacher from my poster.”
Central Bucks School District has added this wonderful program for students to be a part of. If you have any interest, make sure to go to the CB East website under the internship programs. This is a great program to get a head start in your teaching career and remember to see Ms. Conn in A203. Applications are due by Monday, November 3rd.
