DOYLESTOWN – CB East Varsity Girls’ Soccer defeated Pennsbury at home in a hard-won 3-0 shutout on Thursday night. Goals were scored by senior captain Elliot Forney #32, sophomore Mikayla Gray #51, and senior Gwen Krystkiewicz #10.

The Patriots put the pressure on in the first half and held the Falcons to their end of the field. A strong Patriots back line ensured the Falcons were unable to clear the ball from their end and left the Falcons contending with the Patriots midfielders and forwards without respite for most of the half. The Patriots played fast, aggressive soccer and seldom let the Falcons feel any degree of comfort when the latter held possession. Though they played solid defense, and the opposing goalkeeper made some commendable saves, it wasn’t long before the Falcons conceded a goal; first to Forney, then to Gray. The first half ended with the Patriots holding a strong lead over the Falcons.

The Falcons got a second wind at the start of the next half and the resulting competition was a little more even between the two teams, with the Patriots playing a more defense-oriented game though not conceding as much space as the Falcons did in the first half. Once again, the Falcons struggled to bypass the Patriots forwards and midfielders, and a strong back line warded off the attackers that made it through. The few shots that were made on the Patriots goal were saved by the goalkeeper. With less than ten minutes left, the Patriots managed to turn the tables on the Falcons and secured one final goal from Krystkiewicz, eliminating any chance of a Falcons comeback. When time was called, the Patriots were victorious, making their record 8-3 for the season.

For the players, their victory was especially sweet on account of it being Senior Night. All the seniors started the first half, and before the game, the seniors were recognized alongside their families by the fans as they walked out on the field.

The Patriot Newspaper wishes them well in their plans for after high school, and bids them good luck for the rest of their season. The Girls Varsity team plays Neshaminy at home this Wednesday at 3:30 PM.
