Club Spotlight: Book Club!

James Wan

Book Club is an afterschool club for those who are interested in having a welcoming environment to read and discuss books with other fun activities. Led by Jordanna Keyser and Faith Chiarappa with Mrs. Savicki as the advisor, its members meet in the library on the first Friday of every month from 2:30 to 3:30.

“Our goal is to inspire readers to read more to find the fun of reading rather than seeing it as a chore or a school task,” Jordanna said. Each meeting starts off with a Kahoot or a book talk followed by reading time. At the end, members discuss the books they read.

Book Club member Alysha Wang attended the October meeting with Crime and Punishment. “It went well,” she said. “We talked about what the book was about and our thoughts.” At the meeting, she described her book, saying, “It’s kind of confusing since it’s fast paced, but the plot itself and the main character are interesting!”

The club currently has around 30 members. “We have a nice little community,” Faith said. “We all have similar interests.”

“Sharing that passion inspires us all to read more,” Jordanna added.

As for their own reading, Faith recently read The Phantom of the Opera and is working on Know My Name, while Jordanna has gone through The Rooted Life and The Glass Castle.

Book Club’s literary community could always use a few more members! If you are interested in joining, email [email protected] or [email protected] for more information.
