With a commanding win in Super Bowl LIX, the Philadelphia Eagles soar to their second ever Super Bowl title. Star quarterback Jalen Hurts had an outstanding performance, completing 17 of 22 passes for 221 yards, scoring three total touchdowns, rushing 72 yards, and being named Super Bowl MVP. Another critical part of the team that led to the win was the stellar defense led by Vic Fangio. During the Super Bowl, players such as Zack Baun, Cooper DeJean, and Quinyon Mitchell, along with the entire defensive line, which had a total of six sacks, contributed to one of the best defensive performances in history. In the upcoming offseason, the organization has 18 free agents with players that had some key roles in the historic season.
Zack Baun, 28-year-old linebacker, was brought on this offseason from the Saints, where he contributed on special teams. After being brought on to the team in the preseason as an off-ball pass-rusher, Vic Fangio transitioned him into an inside linebacker. With his breakout season this year, he had 151 total tackles, five forced fumbles, an interception, and 3.5 sacks. He was named a first-team All-Pro, earned a Pro Bowl selection, and was a finalist for Defensive Player of the Year. With his one-year, $3.5 million contract, Baun will be a free agent this offseason. The expectation is that the Eagles front office will absolutely re-sign him, reinstating him as the pivotal part of the defense that he was this year.

Josh Sweat, 27-year-old edge rusher, has been remarkable for the Eagles, especially this year. In Super Bowl LIX, he recorded six tackles, 2.5 sacks, and two tackles for loss. Sweat signed a one-year, $10 million deal in 2024, which makes him a free agent in 2025 offseason. Unless Howie Roseman decides to make a big payout, Sweat will go elsewhere with a contract that attracts him. Sweat expressed his desires for his next contract, saying, “Money’s important, but I want to be in the right situation.”

Philadelphia has already been on the lookout for replacements in case Sweat decides to part ways. Browns star Myles Garrett has voiced his interest in coming to Philly, and Philly has done the same to him. Howie Roseman has a history of making huge moves in the offseason to stack up his roster. Could Garrett end up a Philadelphia Eagle?

After his first four years in New York as a Jets offensive lineman, Mekhi Becton signed with the Eagles this offseason and had a massive revival to his career. The Eagles plan to bring him back with the great offensive line they had, but Becton has seen interest from teams all around the league. Becton started 15 weeks total this year at guard and only missed two weeks, one due to an injury and one when Philly rested their starters.
The Eagles’ front office has another major issue to figure out on what to do with the vacant offensive coordinator position after the loss of Kellen Moore, who took a head coaching spot with the New Orleans Saints. The Eagles franchise has had trouble keeping an offensive coordinator for more than a few seasons. Since 2016, the Eagles have had five different coordinators. As the Eagles start their search to fill this position, a few names have come up. If the Eagles chose to look within, a likely candidate is Kevin Patullo, who served as associate head coach and pass game coordinator. If the Eagles choose to bring in an external candidate, a likely contender would be Vikings QB coach Josh McCown, who has had a promising career so far and would be a good fit as Moore’s replacement. These are the top choices for the Eagles’ future.
The Eagles have set the stage for the years to come because of their dominant roster with young fresh stars throughout the defense and offense. Nick Sirianni has been a winner since the day he stepped into Philly, and the city hopes he keeps this up so that there are more celebrations to come.
